Frock Me...

'It took me 3 hours to look this rubbish'; Alexa Chung jokes with US Marie Claire editor Joanna Coles in the return of C4 show 'Frock Me'. Alongside designer Henry Holland and Radio 1 DJ Gemma Cairney, 'Frock Me' gives light to current fashion trends and music. In today's episode the team talked military trends, and Marina & The Diamonds performed her new single... and who knew that there was such a thing as UV sensitive pink lipstick?! Interesting stuff...

Sophie Dahl & Heston Blumenthal...

I find myself falling deeply in love with the TV programme "The Delicious Miss Dahl". Her recipes are fresh and the setting in which she cooks up her ideas is just darling, with bouquets and knick-knacks opportunely placed around the fabulous kitchen. The programme shows on BBC 2 at 8.30pm on Tuesdays; http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00rs7c9

Another fast becoming favourite TV chef of mine in the inventive Heston Blumenthal. In his "Feasts" series, he has been cooking up a storm in the themes of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, fairy-tales and the Titanic. Next week will show him creating a Gothic horror banquet... I can hardly wait! 'Heston's Feasts' is shown on Channel 4 at 9pm on Tuesdays, straight after The Delicious Miss Dahl'...

A 'Skins' day out...

I woke up at the crack of dawn this morning to take part in the 'Skins' series 5 & 6 open auditions in London. They took place at William Ellis Schools in Highgate, and although the weather was pretty chilly and I was pretty nervous, I met on my travels in the queue some very lovely people, keeping my spirits high through the long 1 1/4 hour wait. The audition its self was nothing special, just a little improvisation work within random groups. With no formal acting experience, I don't particularly think I did very well, although I had an enjoyable time anyway... I'm not exactly expecting a call back! When I finished up, I took a trip round the town, having a browse down some of the vintage shops in Brick Lane and the like. On my way there, I spotted the handsome singer-songwriter Jack Peñate walking into the Whitechapel Art Gallery! That made my day!! I actually came across a bit of trouble with the trains today, so this song is very appropriate...

When Sophie went to shop...

Today I went out with a dear friend of mine for a spot of shopping. When I say a 'spot', I really mean a new season haul. The weather was kind, and the afternoon tea and cake (Victoria sponge, of course) was pleasant. Here are my shopping bag's best bits;

Okay, so purchasing 3 pairs of shoes in one day is a little greedy, but you know what... a girl can never have of them! The grey brogue are from New Look at £25; the laces remind me of whiskers :) The brown lace up boots are from Minx at £29.99; nice and sturdy to mix with little dresses perhaps. And last but not least, the navy lace pumps from H&M at £9.99; cute enough for a light summer's day.

This little skater-style dress is from New Look at £18. It's jersey grey with a dusty pink bow print. I thought this would be a nice addition to my summer wardrobe, although it is still wearable with tights and a cardigan for this mixed April weather. I reckon this would match perfectly with the grey brogues too.

Also from New Look I bought this faux-leather satchel at £15 and this gorgeous floral scarf at £5.
~
Finally, I bought a bunch of accessories to top everything off :) Pearl charm bracelet - Miss Selfridge £8, Pink rose resin bracelet - New Look £5, and Tea Party pendant necklace - Accessorize £6.

Down the Rabbit Hole..

This is a whole new world to me, but I endeavour to start as I mean to go on. This past month has been a busy one, and the sunshine has only just started to frame my days beautifully. Here is a catch-up of my previous couple of weeks;

1... Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland was released, and I went to see it on the night it came out with a group of friends... a brilliant adaptation of Lewis Carroll's masterpiece, I must say.

2... I visited Selfridges to take a peek at the Alice In Wonderland window displays and WonderRoom shop. The windows were charmingly dressed as an array of tea parties, and featured Johnny Depp's original costume for the film, designed by the talented Colleen Atwood. Inside the WonderRoom was showcased Wonderland themed hat designs by Philip Treacy, who is the creator of some of Lady Gaga's avant garde head-wear. Whilst there, I bought an adorable 'Mad-Tea Party' brooch from 'buddug.com'

3... Mother's Day, and I took another trip to London town with my family to Claridge's Hotel for afternoon tea... my first time and it was delightful! I also spotted a number of famous faces there too!

4... I visited my favourite museum, the V&A, to see their current major exhibition 'Quilts 1700- 2010', featuring a Tracey Emin work, who is one of my favourite artists! The exhibit is on until 4th July 2010. I also took a look around at their fashion and textiles displays, noticing a recent acquisition of an Alexander McQueen piece from his 2010 collection. On the way home I took a de-tour to Harrod's who also have an Alice In Wonderland collection of window displays.

... It really seems as though my March and April have been designated to all things 'Wonderland'! I will post all other pictures up in a post tomorrow x
