royal-wedding-ness

Just spotted this little 'Royal Wedding Kit' on Anya Hidmarch online shop... isn't it adorable! I am totally obsessing over the royal weeding now, and with only a few days to go, I cannot control my girlish excitement! I'm planning to go up to London on the day with a friend to join in with the celebrations, probably somewhere like Hyde Park or Trafalgar Square where there will be screenings of the event. These past few weeks, I have been avidly keeping myself up to date with all the wedding goings-on, and bought myself the latest issue of Vogue magazine (the one with my most favourite model, Natalia Vodianova on the cover), which, unsurprisingly is a wedding special! Doesn't she look serene! I now cannot wait for friday... roll on the Royal Wedding! x

moi je joue...

Just a little bit inspired by Brigitte Bardot on my little shopping outing today. Picked up a couple of pieces in New Look, including a pair of skinny combat trousers, a long sleeve 'breton' style top (of which I already have too many), a rusty red crop vest top with ties, and a white crew neck jumper (which I thought would be perfect lightweight coverage for early summer). I also bought a couple of Barry M Nailpaints, which are great for their bold, eye-catching colour, in shades 'Coral' and 'Mushroom'. I've also started to get into the habit of putting my hair up into messy pony tails, with some curly strands coming loose around my neckline and ears, tied with a little lace ribbon in a bow, something I noticed from a sixties photo series by Sam Haskins titled 'Gill'. Pretty happy with this little capsule wardrobe, I think the colours complement each other perfectly... I think Brigitte would approve.

Katy Perry at Hammersmith Apollo... ♥

So I went to see Katy Perry on her California Dreams Tour on Thursday night... what an incredible show!! I went with four friends, and we had standing tickets so we got there early enough so we were at the front. It truly was amazing... the outfits were stunning, the dancers were fantastic, the whole show was so theatrical, and Katy is the most extraordinary performer..

She really had the crowd wrapped around her little finger, and we all loved it... my friends and I were devotedly singing every lyric along with her, she is totally our girl crush! (ignore how American that sounded!)

The Vaccines... ♥

credit: Roger Sargent

Since first hearing their single 'Wreckin' Bar' on XFM in January, I have down right fallen head-over-heels for 'The Vaccines'. The London four piece make, what I like to call, proper pop music, reminiscent of The Strokes and The Ramones. They graced the cover of NME in early January, and are on this week' cover too... both magazines I rushed out to buy and pore over.

Their debut album 'What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?'  was released on Monday, and I made sure I was at their signing at the HMV store in Oxford Street, where the band played six songs, including 'Post Break-Up Sex', 'If You Wanna', 'Nørgaard', 'A Lack of Understanding', 'Wolf Pack', and of course, 'Wreckin' Bar'. Each song is fuelled with guitar reverb and lyrics of love and youthhood, and are completely short, sharp and fun. I got myself standing right at the front, and excitedly sang along like the the desperate teenage girl I am, no apologies!

Once the set was over, Arni, Pete, Freddie and Justin took the time to sign copies of the album, which I was incredibly thankful for. Last night, Justin and Freddie joined John Kennedy on his X-posure show on XFM, where the album was played in full with the guys talking through each song in detail. I texted in to the show, asking John to thank the guys again for signing my CD, and, low and behold, he read my message out live on air!! I was so chuffed.. I think its fair to say I'm in love with this band

LCF interview, Topshop, and Oxford street haul...

What I Wore...

Camel jumper with elbow patchess - H&M
Jersey pocket skirt (as worn by Alexa Chung) - American Apparel
Black 'Mickey Kingston' boots - Office
Clock pendant - Accessorize
Floral scarf - H&M
Bedale Waxed jacket - Barbour
Sachel bag - Ollie & Nic

Phew! I think my London College of Fashion went well on Tuesday... it started with a group interview, there were about eight of us in the room, sitting around a circle of tables, each of us from very different backgrounds with different aspirations for fashion related careers. The two ladies that were interviewing asked us a range of questions which each of us in turn had to answer, such as what was the last film or exhibition you saw, why do you want to study at LCF, who is your favourite designer or store and why, last big news article that you can remember, what jobs are there in the fashion industry (and not just front of house) etc... the list goes on! I really tried to present myself well, attempted to relate every answer I gave to fashion and the arts (and tried not to just state the obvious), and really endeavoured to show my breadth of fashion knowledge, and my enthusiasm for studying at the college. After that stage, we were given a worksheet and were asked to write 300 words on out favourite designer/ store/ brand. I chose to write about Vivienne Westwood, as I studied her 18th century inspired gowns at the V&A, visited her shoes exhibition at Selfridges, interviewed her muse Sara Stockbridge, and I genuinely consider her a fashion icon, and I love the theatricality of her clothes... there is so much to say about the 'grande dame of British fashion'!

After my interview, I hopped back on the train and headed for Oxford Circus, as I read in Stylist magazine that there would be a fashion related talks held at the Topshop flagship store. The Q&A session was with Melanie Rickey (Grazia fashion editor at large and avid fashion blogger) and new designer David Koma, who's designs have been worn by the like of Beyonce and Lady Gaga! The pair answered questions submitted by customers in-store, and I even got to answer Melanie a cheeky question about her drive for fashion blogging. The talk was such an enjoyment to listen to, and such a privilege to listen to what Melanie and David had to say about London Fashion Week, even amongst the hustle and bustle of the store!

I really loved that outfit that Melanie was wearing; a very sleek Celine Resort 2010 blazer, a nude colour shirt, black jodpurs/leggings, a pair of black Chanel court shoes with little emblems on the toe, and a selection of gold pieces of jewellery to top it off.

After the talk, I blundered around the labyrinth that is Topshop, and in the process I somehow picked up a tote bag, a vintage tan leather belt (which matches my Ollie and Nic satchel perfectly), and a Gogo Philip gold star charm necklace.

Once I had conquered Topshop, I ventured out to New Look, where I picked up a chunky knit cardigan in 'ceder', which I first saw on 'LLYMLRS.com (did my dignity just fly out of window when I took this flash/mirror shot with my crappy Sony Cybershot?!). Its really warm and cosy, and even if it is a little on the 'grandma' side, I love it and it goes with 99% of my wardrobe. I also picked up a white/ camel stripe jumper with elbow patches at Zara. By this point I was exhausted, so hopped back on the train home... now I am just waiting to hear back from the London College of Fashion to see if I was a successful interviewee... eeeekkk!!

London College of Fashion Interview!!

Okay, so I've blagged myself and interview at the London College of Fashion for their Access to HE Diploma (Fashion Media and Communication) course at the Lime Grove building. I am so unbelievably excited for it; I went for an open day there a couple weeks ago, and to be able to have a place on the course would mean the absolute world to me!

The course itself entails visual studies, styling, photography, computer graphics, drawing, fashion analysis, journalism, and public relations, all within a fashion context. This is the ideal preparatory course for me, as I am certain that I want to do a fashion related degree at university, but am unsure which specific route I would like to take. The interview I've got is on Tuesday 22nd, so in a few days time, and I know it will include a 'short written test' and then small group interviews with 'members of the course team'..... eeeeekkk!!

If anyone is reading this that can give me ANY hints and tips at all for my interview, anything from what to prepare for the interview to what to wear on the day, I would be so incredibly thankful! This is a big thing for me to say the least, and I really want to do well.... fingers crossed, I will do myself justice and impress the tutors :)

the locks of another..

So, I've gotten to that point where whenever I wash my hair its becoming increasingly 'fluffy' at the ends. Okay sure, I use my GHD's pretty much every day to help accentuate the natural wave to my tresses, but right now my locks are a looking a little desperate, and no well-respected girl who takes care in her appearance should put up with such a disgrace of a mane.

Maybe I am exaggerating a little, my hair is not exactly out of control, but still, I like to keep my barnet in good keep, plus, a trip to the hairdressers, a place of mixed emotions for most, will not go amiss if one wants a haircut and (potential) colour à la Alexa Chung. I am definitely one of these girls who is guilty of a good cut out and keep of images and photographs that I love from magazines and the net, and its the same when I go to my local salon. I''l find myself walking in there grasping pictures and print outs of hair styles of celebrities that I long for, and Chung is no exception.

I. Love. Her. Hair. There.. I said it. And sure, I've probably joined to long list of other Chung-ettes who appreciate her sun kissed, laid-back hairstyle, and I'm fully aware that I've caught on to the trend of 'ombre hair' two seasons too late. But still, I am almost certain this particular style would suit me, and I am well and truly determined to get it done asap. My hair deserves it.

there she goes.. there she goes again..

Okay, so its now 2011, and ive not blogged in what feels like forever. im making a promise to myself to take this blog seriously now, to take pride in my creativity, to explore my interests in art and fashion more, and to make this blog become a document of all things that inspire and encircle my little life. fingers crossed, i will actually try hard at this :)

Sooo.. i aquired a few nice bits and bobs over the christmas period, mainly clothes, unsurprisingly. i would never usually consider myself one of those 'topshop girls', y'know, the kind of lass who dresses head to toe in topshop garb, looking near identical to the every sales assistant in the shop and every other female in the queue. okay, so im definately not becoming a topshop-ette, but i have welcomed the arrival of some of their clothes into my wardrobe, and into my developing personal style, if that makes any sense. i also got a few bits from urban outfitters, asos, and river island. I'll post a photo of the t-shirt I got from urban outfitters soon, next time i'm wearing it.. its a very cute florence + the machine top, which i love :)
